Completion of an eight-month to one-year college or other program in dental assistance or
Completion of secondary school with on-the-job training
Membership in the Canadian Dental Assistants Association is required
Registration with provincial or territorial authorities is required
Certification by the National Dental Assisting Examining Board is required

Job Description Prepare patients for dental examinations
Prepare plaster models and moulds
Order dental and office supplies
Prepare dental instruments and filling materials
Maintain and order supplies
Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment
Educate patients concerning oral hygiene
Supervise students in training
Polish teeth and clinical crowns and apply fluoride and sealant
Prepare wax bite-blocks and impression trays
Take and develop X-rays
Record dental procedures performed on patients
Invoice patients for dental services
Take preliminary impressions for diagnostic casts
