Responsibilities
Gain prescriptions provided by ophthalmologists or optometrists, or analyze existing eyewear to determine necessary specifications.

Utilize optical measuring devices to accurately measure eye curvature, pupil position, and bridge width.

Educate clients on various eyewear options including lens materials, frames, tints, and anti-reflection coatings to assist them in making informed choices.

Grind, polish, cut, and edge lenses prior to insertion into frames.

Customize finished eyeglasses to ensure proper fit for clients.

Provide guidance to clients on the selection and care of contact lenses, including adjustments as needed.

Possibly oversee the work of student opticians.


Qualifications
Completion of a two- or three-year college program in ophthalmic dispensing or optical sciences.
Licensed by a regulatory body for opticians by the province.
