Job Details Senior Health Care Aide (HCA) - 10 positions available
Job duties:
Administering palliative subcutaneous medications;
Providing comfort to palliative clients by administering pain medications, providing oral hygiene, sponge bathing, massage, and special treatments as recommended by physicians and Registered Nurses;
Performing post-mortem care;
Emptying and changing ostomy bags, assessing and treating ostomy sites, and reporting changes to Registered Nurses;
Emptying and cleaning catheter bags, changing to night / day bags, and cleaning and assessing insertion sites;
Performing bladder irrigation for clients with indwelling catheters and intermittent catheterization;
Assessing blood glucose with glucometer and performing first-aid for hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia with Registered Nurse’s guidance and assisting with or administering insulin injections;
Performing wound care using a variety of wound dressings;
Performing Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) feeding and changing insertion site dressings;
Administering suppository and Fleet enema as needed for constipation as recommended by Physicians and under the supervision of Registered Nurses; and
Performing other duties as required and consistent with the position.

Skills requirement:
Minimum 2 years hands on health care aide experience in the last 5 years (2019–2023) evidenced by full-time employment records or a letter of employment reflecting a minimum of this or similar position.
This experience must include: Palliative care including end of life support;
Acute care,including by not limited to catheter, ostomy, post-mortem, tube-feeding and wound care;
Personal care and all related support for clients in their own residences, including by not limited to bed bath, shower assist, personal hygiene, vital signs monitoring, medication administration and charting communication with the employer;
Care plan delivery as per supervisory Registered Nurse at the employer; and
Working with clients with Dementia and Alzheimer.
Education and training requirement and/or certificates:
Minimum of a health care aide college or private institutional program or a college program in care of the elderly, care of persons with disabilities, convalescent care or in a related field
CPR training (certificate within 1 year)
Criminal record check
Other skills:
English language skills, oral and written, must be strong
Work hours:
Work is scheduled by shift, representing full-time employment, (min. 30 hours per week)
Work may be straight hours and live-in shifts, which require the caregiver to stay in the clients home overnight
Benefits:
Workers’ compensation benefits paid by employer
Upon achieving full time hours of 40 hours per week, extended health benefits are made available to the employee on a 50/50 cost.
Wage:
Rate of pay is $20.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
Terms of Employment:
Full-time, permanent.
Work location:
Home care is delivered in the private residences of the clients in Calgary, Alberta and surrounding area.
