Job Description:
Take patients’ general medical and ophthalmic history
Operate ophthalmic testing and measuring instruments to aid in assessing patients’ vision
Instruct patients on diagnostic test and record results
Administer eye drops, ointments and medications as directed by the professionals
Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
Perform various administrative duties
Manage dispensary: frames/lens inventory, training/managing fellow optical dispensers, dispensing patients into suitable glasses and lenses
Operate and train team members on diagnostic optometry equipment/tests, record results to aid optometrists in assessing patients' vision and eye health
Schedule and confirm appointments
Perform general clerical duties
Maintain inventory of equipment
Manage routine office functions including reception, telephone and booking appointments
Order supplies and equipment
Obtain specifications for eyeglasses or contact lenses from a prescription prepared by an Ophthalmologist and take necessary measurements.
Advise clients on eyeglasses selection by informing them of different products such as lens materials, frames, tints and anti-reflection coating.
Adjust contact lenses and inform client on use and care.
May supervise or manage the activities of other opticians or student opticians.
Job Description
Requirements:
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
Experience: A minimum of 2 year of experience in the optometric field is required OR if the worker doesn’t have the required experience, completion of a six to twelve month optometric assistant or a related field college program is required.
Previous optical and dispensary management (frames/lens inventory, fellow optical dispensers) experience is required.
Experience with optical lab and pre exam equipment is required.
Ability to accurately perform manual refractions is required.

Computer and technology knowledge: MS Excel, MS Office.
Language: English is required.
Salary: $25.00 per hour, 40 hours per week.
Benefits: Vision plan, health spending account, and RRSP matching program are provided by the employer. Transportation costs covered if worker needs to relocate.
Important Information: Flexibility on schedule is required. The work schedule will be from Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and alternating Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. If the worker is required to work on a Saturday, they get an additional day off.
