Job Description Purpose
A Fire Extinguisher/Shop Technician is responsible for keeping our communities safe by inspecting and recharging fire extinguishers. This is an essential role to ensure our Fire Service Technicians in the field have the fire prevention equipment needed to mitigate fires.

Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Shop Lead, the Fire Extinguisher/Shop Technician will be responsible to learn & carry out the following responsibilities:
• Hydrostatic testing/drying of low-pressure cylinders (up to 700 psi)
• Hydrostatic testing/drying of high-pressure cylinders (10,000 psi)
• Maintenance of hydro test devices, clean agent & CO2 pumps
• Refurbishing, hydro testing/drying, filling of Dry Chemical, CO2, clean agent extinguishers
• Dispose of extinguishers as required
• Documentation of all extinguishers & hoses coming in/out for servicing
• Shipping & receiving of hoses to be tested/finished to/from vendor
• Serve customers at the counter
• Receive/process payment from customers
• Forklift moves
• Facility Maintenance as required
• All other shop duties as required

Our Ideal Candidate
• Hands-on experience inspecting and testing fire extinguishers
• Experience doing high pressure CO2 testing or hydrotesting, is an asset
• Has a mechanical aptitude (experienced using hand tools) and eagerness to learn
• Strong communication skills, both verbal & written (as the candidate must be able to successfully complete internal and external Fire Safety courses, as well as read and understand standard operating procedures and other documentation)
• Forklift certification, is an asset
• Computer literate (experience using Microsoft Office) and ability to easily learn other software programs

Physical Demands of the Job
• Ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs.
• Prolonged standing, squatting, bending, and twisting throughout the day
• Possesses a Valid Driver’s License, as they may be required to support the Shop Depot Driver with deliveries
• Manual dexterity required
